Tots

About our Tots Class

In our Tots program, we strive to create a warm, nurturing, safe environment for children to develop their independence through exploration. Free choice allows children to discover and problem solve while practicing important social skills such as taking turns. And we have so much to choose from: painting, puzzles, musical instruments, blocks, sensory bins, the kitchen and much more. Teachers lead circle time with stories and songs. As the children grow older, they are more able to focus and participate during this group time. Children develop physical skills on the stairs, push and pull toys and in the loft area as well as at the playground as weather permits.

Parent Role

Parents and caregivers play an important role in our school. They act as classroom assistant teachers every week and hold a school job to help run the co-op (everything from School President to Laundry Committee to Events Committee). Class meetings with both social time and parent education take place monthly in the evening. Family participation provides a high adult-to-child ratio, lower cost than other preschool models, and a strong community. The model creates not only a rich learning environment for children but also supports families in their parenting journey.

Full parent responsibilities can be found on our Registration page. More about the co-op model can be found on our What is Co-op? page and on the North Seattle Co-op's website.
